Web Business Marketing is the Hottest New Strategy for Small Business in the Bad Economy

Web business marketing is what small businesses are turning to in droves according to the Wall Street Journal, blogger, Kelly Spors.

“Here’s something for the silver-lining department: Hard economic times will force more small businesses to become smarter marketers. They may even get Web sites.”

The Wall Street Journal sources estimate that the percentage of small and midsize home- and trade-services businesses with Web sites will increase to 60% by 2010, up from just 33% today.

“The red-hot housing market (remember that?) offered no incentive for home-services businesses, such as painters, home-repair shops and landscapers, Realtors or Real Estate Investors to worry about Web marketing, because calls flooded in. But now these business owners are struggling, and need to be more strategic and seek out cost-effective marketing tools to compete.”

Small businesses are predicted to see having a Web site as a cost effective alternative means of finding new business. Spors points out that it certainly makes sense to think about new ways to market a business right now – and the biggest growth of marketing will be online.

“Among the Web marketing tools businesses should consider include “local search” engines like those connected with Google Maps, CitySearch or YellowPages.com that produce results when someone searches for a particular business in their geographic area and pay-for-performance advertising like affiliate ads or pay-per-click ads. One big benefit to these marketing channels: The results are far more measurable thanks to Web analytics software than, say, placing an ad in a local magazine or even sending out coupons.”

Where does the plumber or real estate investor start? The world of Web business marketing can seem inaccessible to business owners who barely use computers and email. Having a web site for a business is only part of the picture.

Getting traffic to that Web site and enticing the visitors to take some action once they are there is a whole different matter. Those who pay big bucks to a Web site designer or just put up a site themselves will be disappointed in the results. Unless the Web site is “optimized” so search engines like Google and Yahoo will find them (also known as SEO or Search Engine Optimization), a Web site will not perform as a lead generating tool. It would be like printing a postcard to advertise your business and then putting them in the drawer. No one will see them, no one will call.

Having Web Site is Only Part of the Solution

A Web business marketing site, to be effective should be optimized the minute the switch is turned on. A well optimized Web business will appear highly ranked on a Search Engine Results Page with in a matter of days rather than months or never.

The key to having your web site show up on the first page of Google is to have a marketing plan and a marketing strategy. With offline marketing, businesses used to be able to put ads in the newspaper or on the radio and often get results without first doing the basic market research and market plan.

Web Business is different. The Marketing Monsoon System™ has small businesses up and running with an optimized Web Presence in a matter of days. See some of our clients and students speak about the Marketing Monsoon System™.
