<h3><strong>The copy or text on your site must contain the words your market uses in the search.</strong></h3>
<p>Why? The biggest reason is that the search engines use the words on your site to know if your site is a good match for what the searcher is looking for. The second reason is that your visitor will know that they have found the right place when they find the words they used to search.</p>

<p><strong>If you don’t use the same language as your potential customers, they will go away.</strong> They may click on your link and if they don’t see what they are looking for, they will hit the back button with lightening speed. You have about 5 seconds to grab a visitor’s attention!</p>

<p><strong>Start by doing a quick and dirty survey of your current customers. </strong>Ask them if they were going to look for your type of business online, what they would type into <em>Google</em>. <p>Find the “right” keyword phrases is just the beginning to finding your market.  “So, how do I find the right keyword phrases?” you might be asking.</p>

<p>Type one or two words that describe your niche, like “real estate,” or “life insurance” or “plumbing” into the Keyword Suggestion Tool.</p>
<p>You will get back about 100 or more related phrases commonly used in its search engine. The results will tell you how many searches a month and what your competition is for those searches.</p>
<p>There’s a lot more information available there, but number of searches and the number of competing sites is all you need to get started to narrow down a great niche phrase.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">If you have someone creating a website for you, make sure that you provide them with the best keyword phrases for your niche. Unless, of course they will do the research for you, you will need to research those keywords yourself.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span class="MsoSubtleEmphasis"><strong>The copy or text on your site must contain the words your market uses in the search. </strong></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Why? The biggest reason is that the search engines use the words on your site to know if your site is a good match for what the searcher is looking for. The second reason is that your visitor will know that they have found the right place when they find the words they used to search.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">If you don’t use the same language as your potential customers, they will go away. They may click on your link and if they don’t see what they are looking for, they will hit the back button with lightening speed. You have about 5 seconds to grab a visitor’s attention!</p>

<h1>A Few Keyword Research Tips</h1>

<p class="MsoNormal">Start by doing a quick and dirty survey of your current customers. Ask them if they were going to look for your type of business online, what they would type into <em>Google</em>. Then take those words and use one of the many keyword suggestion tools available (we’ll tell you more about keyword identification a little later on.)</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Find the “right” keyword phrases is just the beginning to finding your market.<span> </span>“So, how do I find the right keyword phrases?” you might be asking.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">There are many excellent tools to help you find the best keyword phrases in your niche. <p class="MsoNormal">You will get back about 100 or more related phrases commonly used in its search engine. The results will tell you how many searches a month and what your competition is for those searches.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">There’s a lot more information available there, but number of searches and the number of competing sites is all you need to get started to narrow down a great niche phrase.</p>

<p>The best way we know of to do this is to put an opt-in form on your site where visitors can elect to receive mailings from you.  An autoresponder, as it&#8217;s called, is a simple program that collects Email addresses from your webpage and compiles them into a database. That same program sends personalized email messages in the sequence  you set up.</p>

With a double opt-in your subscribers will receive an email asking them to confirm their request.</p>
<p>While you are getting their email information you might also ask them “What is your most pressing question about ______ (the topic at hand or your field in general.)” This will help you in the next step of your marketing strategy: “Give it to them!”</p>

<h3>Will Your Site be Swimming in Visitors or Stuck in the Google Sandbox?</h3>
<p>Having the right phrases is not a guarantee to getting traffic. You have to strategically place them on your site and position your site to be attractive to the search engines. Most people know of this as Search Engine Optimization (SEO.)</p>
<p>There are many programs or web sites that offer site builders and templates so you can get a basic site on line in minutes. What you get is basically a brochure online, a place where you can send your offline contacts. Those are about the only visitors you will get on a “static” web page without spending a lot of time and money promoting it.</p>
<p>Believe me, I&#8217;ve been there. I have web sites that weren&#8217;t visited by Google for months after being launched. I recently discovered the secrets to getting web sites catalogued and ranked very highly in the search engine pages for my niche within weeks if not days.</p>

<p>Your web site is just one of hundreds of millions of web pages on the internet so it&#8217;s unlikely that anyone will just happen to find you unless your site is built to attract the attention of search engines like Google or Yahoo. Putting up a static web site is a little like printing a brochure and just putting a stack of them on your shelf. It&#8217;s there and anyone can read it, if they know where to look.</p>
<p>Google pretty much rules the universe when it comes to being found on the web. Where do most people look when they are looking for where to find products and services these days? They search on the Web and more than 70% are using Google to search.</p>
<h3>Find Out if Your Website Exists on the Google Map</h3>
<p>If Google doesn&#8217;t know you exist (i.e. they don&#8217;t have your site in their “index” or catalog of web sites), well, let&#8217;s face it, you won&#8217;t come up on any search, never mind on Page One. So forget the idea that your prospective customers will find you by searching online, if your site is not “indexed.” Here’s how to find out if your site is indexed:</p>

<p>In any Google search box: Type, “site:yourdomain.com” and see what results are returned. If Google knows your site exists, various pages of your web site will appear in the results. If you are not yet in Google’s index you will see:</p>
<p>“Your search &#8211; site:yourdomain.com &#8211; did not match any documents.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Until Google checks out your site and has a pretty good idea what it&#8217;s about, you will stay buried in the Google Sandbox (A filter affect that Google places on new domains to stop the website from high rankings for the main keywords.) It doesn&#8217;t matter how pretty your web site is. What matters to Google is content. Information and lot&#8217;s of it, is what will get the attention of Google and your prospective customers.</p>
