How long have you been doing what you do and how did you get to be a Web Marketing Expert?

To answer this question, I’d like to share my story and how I got where I am today and why I love internet marketing.

Picture this…

It was a bright summer afternoon and I was sitting in the lunch room of a clinic where I had worked for six months as a contract psychotherapist. I was sobbing uncontrollably in front of the clinic owner.

I was exhausted and burned out from dealing with a tripled caseload and earning less than half the income over previous years.   You see, I took that contract job because of my own struggle to succeed as a solo professional.

The thriving cash-only private psychotherapy practice that I had built up over 10 years shifted.  New clients, who used to show up regularly from referrals and previous marketing efforts, vanished.  Those referrals dried up because everyone was eager to use their new HMO insurance and I didn’t accept insurance.

The market for therapists had changed. I had become a commodity. It didn’t seem to matter that I had developed an amazing program that was saving the lives of women in extremely destructive relationships. I had helped hundreds of people learn that loving themselves first was the key to healthy relationships and a better life. What seemed to matter more was insurance coverage.

I had no idea how to get back in control of my business and back to what I loved to do. I walked away from my practice and my life as a healer because I couldn’t reach the people who really wanted want I had to offer.

I said to myself, there has got to be a better way and set off to find another channel to make a difference in the world.

Looking back, I learned a valuable lesson from that experience. The most important lesson:  to do good over the long term, help the most people, you have to be continually reaching out with your message and putting yourself out there. Before the dawn of the Web this was a much harder task.

Then I was introduced to the Internet marketing. I learned that Internet Marketing is so much more than putting up a website. When I reached over 10,000 visitors in a matter of 3 days with one of my web marketing projects, I immediately recognized the power of Internet marketing for the traditional business owner!

I began to apply the cutting edge techniques I was learning to market the businesses of a few of my friends. The results were really exciting! The business owners I worked with started to attract new potential clients and make sales as a result of their web marketing efforts!

The Internet has leveled the playing field and provides the vehicle to reach and help more people than I had ever dreamed possible. The biggest revelation was, that it wasn’t my business that failed – it was my ability to reach and interact with the right audience and do it consistently.
